Amazon Web Services to Upskill 10,000 Students in Kenya with AWS Academy

AWS in kenya

Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Authority have announced a plan to upskill 10,000 students across 10 higher education institutions in Kenya on AWS Academy in 2023. This program aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry and provide practical cloud skills to students to pursue industry-recognized certifications and careers in the cloud.

The AWS Academy program will begin in June, offering ready-to-teach cloud computing curriculum to students, preparing them to pursue in-demand jobs and certifications. The program will also provide educators with the necessary skills to equip students with the most up-to-date AWS Cloud innovation knowledge. After completion of the program, students will be ready to work in entry-level tech roles, supporting companies large and small in cloud adoption.

According to LinkedIn data, cloud computing is one of the top hard skills companies need. With this in mind, the AWS Academy program will provide students with the skills needed to excel in one of the fastest-growing industries, supporting the creating of a more inclusive industry that prepares learners of all backgrounds to become the builders of tomorrow.

Computer Learning Centre (CLC), an AWS Training Partner in the East, West, and South Africa, will deliver AWS Training on foundational and associate levels to a group of educators to enable them to deliver AWS Academy to 10 public universities across Kenya. By working together with organizations, education institutions, and governments, AWS aims to empower individuals along different professional journeys to upskill, reskill, and prepare for high-quality jobs.

AWS is also working with organizations like Gebeya, a Pan African start-up which hosts a custom platform on AWS that is accessible online to all citizens who want to pursue technology career paths and find jobs. Gebeya’s academy and job platform is a critical conduit for facilitating economic growth, fostering innovation, and empowering the next generation of tech leaders by bridging the gap between skills acquisition and employment opportunities.
